| Our tests found the Hitachi 7-1/2-gallon industrial
vacuum to be a quiet-running but heavy-duty machine that features
a durable stainless-steel tank and the kind of high performance
we've come to expect from the well-respected Hitachi motor.
Of course, the bottom line when talking about a vacuum is how
well it picks up debris. Suction in wet/dry vacs is measured
in static water lift. The Hitachi rates 90 inches of static
water lift, which is about as powerful as you can get for this
class of machine. Hitachi's quiet-flow air design helps keep
the vacuum running at a subdued 66 decibels (which, to give
you an idea, is probably about half the noise made by your dad's
old wet/dry vac). The stainless-steel tank is about as stout
as any on the market, but, at just a little over 21 pounds,
the unit doesn't feel unwieldy or tough to maneuver. A wide
footprint and well-built casters make it nimble yet stable when
moving it around the shop floor. The vac comes with a plastic
filter for wet applications and a washable fabric filter for
