| Important
Features to consider when Buying : |
| |
A top luxury car should be able to accelerate to 60 mph in
less than 8 seconds, brake from 60 mph in less than 135 feet,
and corner at .78 g or better before its tires lose their grip.
(G means gravitational force; a higher value means you can corner
at higher speeds.)
A full complement of comfort and convenience features should
come standard, including air conditioning with automatic climate
control; five-speed automatic transmission; power windows,
door locks and mirrors; keyless entry; advanced multi-speaker
stereo system with CD player; leather seats; remote security
system; anti-lock brakes; and traction control.
A luxury car should ride smoothly, but not have its suspensions
set so softly that it wallows around when cornering or braking.
The car should be large and accommodating, with enough interior
room for five adults. A large, imposing presence also commands
respect from other motorists and is desirable in this class.

At the end of its current life, but still worth a look. There
are 26 models in the range ten with quattro four-wheel-drive
as standard, six with Multitronic continuous variable transmission
and six with the option of Tiptronic automatic transmission.
There is a new 2.0 litre 130bhp as the entry level model. Specifications
are fabulous, you get the lot with the A6. Again, the engines
lifts it onto the pedestal, especially when allied to the Quattro
drive-trains - while the build and interior are faultless. Diesels
offer fabulous performance of almost 50mpg. Allroad model is
very impressive, although from $58.000+ it is quite a hefty
price. It is worth it though.
Good Point
Great engine range meets uncompromising good looks, refined
ambience.
Bad Point
No major faults to mention.

The new 5-series has arrived and the main talking point is
the rather radical styling. Chris Bangle has completely redesigned
the car and there is the danger that it will be a little too
much for some owners. Photographs don't really do justice to
the car however, as it looks really excellent in the flesh.
The new car is lighter than the old one and has better handling
thanks to the addition of the all-aluminium suspension and chassis
from the 7-series, including the Dynamic Drive anti-roll system.
Model range will start with 520i, 525i, 530i, 530d and 545i.
The diesel, is the pick of the range for us. A 450bhp V10 M5
will follow.
Good Point
Lighter, faster and more innovative. A better car overall.
Bad Point
Will existing owners like the styling?

An all-new model of the Mercedes E-Class has been launched
on the World market. The E-class represents 35% of all Mercedes-Benz
car sales in Ireland. Almost 1.4 million E-Class saloons have
been sold since 1995, representing one fifth of all sales. After
a development time of 48 months and an investment of more than
$2billion, the new model features many technological innovations
as well as improved levels of safety, comfort and handling.
There is a choice of five engines: three petrol engines with
6 or 8 cylinders and outputs ranging from 177hp to 306hp and
two CDI power plants, with 4 or 5 cylinders and outputs ranging
from 150bhp. The E200, E55 AMG and the E320 CDI have just been
added to complete the line up The new car has been improved
in every respect. There is improved, handling, a newly developed
four-link front suspension and a multi-link independent rear
suspension mainly of aluminium. The car has also recently scored
5-stars in the Euro NCAP, the seconds Mercedes to achieve this.
Good Point
Splendid new model kills the 5-series.
Bad Point
The tiptronic box is a side to side motion which is a little
unnatural.

It's hard to say anything about the Lexus which hasn't been
said already. The car is amazingly comfortable and is one of
the most technically advanced pieces of equipment on the road
today. The torque-activated powertrain controls make the gearshifts
super-smooth. Far too many luxury items to mention. The inside
is like a car lover's wedding list.
Good Point
Thinking persons crumpet, high on performance, safety and luxury.
Bad Point
Not as much cabin space, not as many engines as the opposition
